Terry Fox is one of my heroes. "Lead by example," he said, and what an example he set.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of his Marathon of Hope, and I'm once again participating in the 2020 Terry Fox Run, in honour of my father and sister, both lost to cancer.
But because of COVID-19, this year’s run is ‘virtual’ – and I’ve decided to do something entirely different:
On September 19, I’ll be doing a beach cleanup: collecting as much plastic, Styrofoam, nylon and other trash as I can from Liberty Beach in the Roosevelt Campobello International Park on beautiful Campobello Island, NB. My goal is to collect at least 10 bags of trash - one for every kilometer I'd normally be running.
True, it’s not a ‘run’ – but I think Terry Fox would be concerned about ocean plastic, and would approve.
My fundraising goal is $3000; I hope you'll consider supporting my efforts for this very worthwhile cause.
